Introduction --------------- To use the MacScout you'll need: 1. an Apple Mac running OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard) 2. a USB based Gamma-Scout(R) 3. a free USB slot to connect your Gamma-Scout(R) to Please refer to http://www.gamma-scout.com/ for general information about the Gamma-Scout(R) product. Upon start, the MacScout will search for one or more Gamma-Scouts(R) connected to your Mac. For every one connected, a seperate tab will open and you're able to download data from the Gamma-Scouts(R). We believe the icons on the buttons are self-explanatory. From left to right, the buttons have the following fucntionality: (down arrow) Pressing this button will download data from your Gamma-Scout(R). Please follow the textual/graphic instructions to get the data. (down arrow to folder) This button will save the downloaded Gamma-Scout(R) data to a comma-separated file. This CSV file can be read by i.e. Microsoft Excel and be further processed. ("10110", down arrow to folder) This button saves the RAW data received by the Gamma-Scout(R) to a file. This file can be read later and can be used to generate a new CSV file, if you happen to lose it. The file can also be read by the official Windows Gamma-Scout(R) client. A last use for the RAW data is debugging. If the MacScout finds unexpected data in the raw data received by the Gamma-Scout(R), you can mail it to bugs@quickdecay.com for analysis. (red X) Pressing this button closes the active tab. (clock) Synchronize the date and time of your Mac with your Gamma-Scout(R). ("10110" with red X in front) Wipe the data on your Gamma-Scout(R). This function tells the Gamma-Scout(R) to erase its memory, so use with care! 2. Quickdecay have created the MacScout software by analyzing the raw data the Windows Gamma-Scout(R) client creates and by analyzing the traffic between the Gamma-Scout(R) client and a Gamma-Scout(R). Since Quickdecay does not have any design- or protocol information, we CANNOT GUARANTEE the data generated by MacScout is correct. It is therefore MANDATORY to ALWAYS check the MacScout output with an official client, when in doubt. It is HIGHLY INADVISABLE to rely solely on the MacScout output in an environment with higher-than-usual radiation levels or higher-than-usual danger of radiation leaks.
